Naki Nik Naks 0004 – Little Clampet – November 2025
Little Clampett was a barn find in rural Taranaki. Originally three separate tricycles an eccentric farmer had roughly thrown together for no real reason. I thought it was kinda funny so decided the tricycle would make a great plant holder / ornament for our catio or garden. The name 'Little Clampett' is adopted from the "Beverly Hillbillies" and the 'Hillbilly Patina' look we ended up with.
The before
Like I said above, the tricycle was an interesting attempt at recreating a classic. Under the rough spray paint job were layers of different paints primers and rust.

The process
Total strip down and paint remover revealed rust and almost resistant to removal layers of primers paints and rust. I liked the patiner effect that was coming out so dealt to the worst of the rust and went with the look. Hillbilly Patina! Once we were happy with the look we sprayed on several layers of clear acrylic top coat. The seat and handlebars are repurposed leather strips and vinyl coverings.

The end result
Hillbilly Patina! And a functional tricycle that sits well in the catio or garden. Something different.
